Marshfield, WI — A recent episode of “Meet the Artist” from Build a Stage Productions spotlighted Christian musician Brandon Monson of Presence Music, offering a compelling look at how faith, personal struggle, and music ministry intersect to inspire audiences across the country.
Hosted by Paul Kaetterhenry of Different Ministry, the program explored Monson’s journey from personal tragedy and addiction to a life devoted to faith and music. Monson shared that after losing his father in a sudden plane crash at age 19, he spiraled into years of heavy drinking and emotional turmoil before rediscovering purpose through Christianity.
“I didn’t stop believing in God, but I stopped trusting Him,” Monson said during the interview, describing a period marked by grief and self-destructive behavior.
That turning point eventually led to the formation of Presence Music, a band now five years strong with a full-length album Love Better and a new EP, Fight or Flight, set for release this fall. The group has gained notable recognition, including a We Love Christian Music Award and a nomination for “Next Best Thing.” Their music has been broadcast on more than 100 radio stations across eight countries and is available on major streaming platforms.
Despite launching during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band has embraced unconventional opportunities to spread its message. Monson recalled performing Christian music at a casino on New Year’s Eve after a last-minute cancellation—an event he described as both unexpected and impactful.
“We’ll do anything short of sin to reach one more person,” he said, emphasizing the group’s mission-driven approach.
The interview also highlighted the growing collaboration between music ministry and recovery outreach programs. Build a Stage Productions is organizing multiple events, including an upcoming Recovery Fest on May 16 in Willard, Wisconsin, aimed at uniting faith-based recovery organizations such as Adult & Teen Challenge and Celebrate Recovery.
Kaetterhenry stressed the importance of unity among faith communities in addressing addiction. “We want to set an example… that we’re all part of the same mission,” he said, referring to efforts to bridge denominational divides.
Presence Music is scheduled to perform at several major events this year, including festivals in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota, as well as tour dates alongside established Christian artists. The band’s performances range from full-band worship sets to stripped-down acoustic sessions, reflecting their versatility and growing reach.
Monson closed the interview with a message of hope rooted in his own experience: “No matter how broken you feel… you are never too far gone.”
As faith-based music and recovery initiatives continue to intersect, stories like Monson’s highlight a broader movement—one where personal testimony, community outreach, and live music combine to offer healing and connection for those seeking a new path forward.
