Community Producer Story

Christian singer-songwriter Alex Jude says her relationship with God wasn't defined by a single moment, but by a lifelong journey that ultimately led her to surrender control and trust Him completely.

Jude shared that story during a recent appearance on Build a Stage Productions: Meet the Artist, where she discussed her faith, music career and the inspiration behind her latest project, Leaving Egypt.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Jude began writing songs as a teenager, using music as a way to process life's challenges and experiences. Now a fifth-generation musician, she has spent years building an independent music career rooted in faith and personal storytelling.

During the interview, Jude described her spiritual journey as a road trip, with God riding alongside her through the ups and downs of life before she eventually handed Him the keys.

"I picture it like my testimony with God is being in the car on a road trip," Jude said. "Earlier in my life and into my twenties, I didn't let Him drive. He was in the passenger seat with me, talking with me and teaching me. Then I got to a point where I switched seats with Him and really gave my whole life over to Him."

That concept became the inspiration for one of the songs featured on her upcoming EP, Leaving Egypt. The collection of songs follows a spiritual and emotional journey from fear and uncertainty toward freedom and trust in God.

The title track draws inspiration from the biblical story of the Israelites leaving Egypt and serves as a metaphor for leaving behind places, habits and circumstances that no longer allow a person to grow.

"Leaving Egypt is about leaving somewhere where you can't grow and letting God take you on that process and journey into freedom," Jude explained.

The EP's songs are connected by themes of surrender, transformation and personal growth. Jude said each track represents a different stage in the journey, from confronting fear to fully trusting God to guide life's direction.

Her path in music has reflected that same process.

For nearly two decades, Jude worked as an independent artist before signing a record deal. She described years of sacrifice, uncertainty and perseverance while pursuing a calling she felt God had placed on her life.

"There were seasons where I had to let it go and surrender His promises and trust that He was going to take care of me," Jude said. "Nobody who's in this for themselves is still in it after this long."

The conversation also touched on recovery and healing. While Jude said she has not personally struggled with addiction, she gained firsthand experience through a former spouse's battle with substance abuse.

She spoke candidly about the emotional impact addiction can have on families and loved ones, as well as the healing process that follows.

"I had to learn what he was in," Jude said. "I was reading books about it and trying to understand the psychology behind it and the physicality behind it. There was a lot for everyone to heal."

Those experiences have influenced both her faith and her songwriting, giving her a deeper understanding of themes such as forgiveness, restoration and freedom.

Jude is scheduled to perform June 13 at the Made New Recovery Seminar and Music Festival at Whispering Oaks Concert Venue. The event will feature worship music, keynote speakers and discussions centered on faith-based recovery and healing.

Her appearance comes one day after the release of the final song and official launch of the Leaving Egypt EP.

For Jude, the music is ultimately about encouraging others to trust God's plan, even when the destination is unclear.

"Freedom is a choice," she said. "It's stretching yourself. It's a daily posture."

Through her music and testimony, Jude hopes listeners find the courage to take that next step of faith and discover the freedom that comes from letting God lead the way.
